It might sting when you pee for a bit, but that normally stops after a few hours. There might be a bit of mess afterwards, don't freak out, just keep some tissues handy and have a shower if you want to. This does not mean it will hurt every time you have sex, it is kinda like a any cut or bruise you need time to heal and then it's business as usual. Or ask the guy to go slow/be gentle/whatever. The initial pain subsides and you might feel a little uncomfortable after the event. It's on a par with moderate to bad cramps (depending on your pain threshold) and you might lose a little blood (I concur with the tablespoon) at this point. Then comes the big 'push' (that's right ladies, the breaking of the hymen :s). You get used to it and generally forget if you are into the guy you are with. There will be a little bit of soreness at this point, but no worse than mild cramps. For a while there is a bit of poking around while you get used to the rhythm. I doesn't hurt as bad as you think it will. Having lost my virginity recently I can pass on one thing. Wow, a lot of these responses are really full on!!! I know that there is normally a MAJOR worry with girls and their first time I was exactly the same.
